Founded in 1911, ASSP (American Society of Safety Professionals) is the oldest and largest professional safety organization. Its more than 30,000 members manage, supervise and consult on safety, health, and environmental issues in industry, insurance, government and education. The National Capital Chapter of ASSE was chartered in 1948 and covers the District of Columbia, and in Maryland, Montgomery and Prince Georges Counties and the Southern Maryland Region.

The American Subcontractors Association of Metro Washington servers as the united voice for subcontractors and supplier to promote equitable business practices through education and advocay. Since 1964, ASA Metro Washington (formerly the DC Metropolitan Subcontractors Association) has promoted ethical and equitable business practes, quality construction, a safe and healthy work environment, integrity, and membership diversity.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Construction safety Association (WMACSA) was founded in 1972 by the late Fred Foote and is registered as a nonprofit corporation in Maryland since 1975. Monthly meetings are held over dinner where contractors and construction workers can discuss mutual problems in preventing injuries and accidents on construction projects. WMACSA members can receive Continuing Education Units (CEU's) for seminar attendance, benefit from training sessions and site tours. WMACSA brings in guest speakers of reputation, officers and trainers offer classes such as a complimentary OSHA 10-hour to those members interested.

Established in 1923, the Chesapeake Region Safety Council, Chapter of the National Safety Council, provides safety & health training in Delaware, Maryland and the Washington D.C. Metro Area. CRSC is a non-profit organization offering a variety of occupational safety & health, emergency care, traffic safety and safety certificate courses as well as Instructor Development Programs.
